Prairie Winds Park
While there are several parks in Calgary where visitors can skate, we’re highlighting Prairie Winds Park. It’s the only park in the city that offers not one, but two outdoor skating rinks that are maintained by the city of Calgary. Visitors should note that while the northern rink is exclusively for pleasure skating, the southern rink can be used for informal hockey play as well. Both rinks are open to the public from 5 AM to 11 PM.
Other Outdoor Ice Skating Spots in Calgary
In addition to the numerous city-operated outdoor ice rinks, Calgary is also home to over 35 volunteer-run rinks as part of the city’s Adopt-a-Rink program. Neighborhoods with volunteer-run rinks include Beltline, Aspen, Hillhurst, Sunnyside, Meadowlark, Silverado, Eagle Ridge and many more, as listed on the city’s website. It should be noted that these ice rinks are only available for pleasure skating, and that hockey equipment is not allowed.
